Technical Information

BruxZir® Solid Zirconia is indicated for crowns, bridges, veneers, inlays and onlays, screw-retained implant crowns and full-arch implant prostheses. It is an esthetic alternative to PFM metal occlusal/lingual or full-cast restorations and ideal for restorations requiring extra durability such as crowns under partials or screw-retained implant crowns. The chip-proof durability of BruxZir restorations also makes them ideal for bruxers who have broken natural teeth or previous PFM restorations. BruxZir restorations are also ideal for patients lacking the preparation space for a PFM.

BruxZir® Esthetic Solid Zirconia is a new category of dental zirconia made possible by years of research & development at Glidewell Dental. Advanced colloidal processing animates BruxZir Esthetic zirconia with high-performing strength and lifelike translucency, and superior shading technology renders enhanced shade matching and consistency for even more beautiful results. Named in Dentistry Today’s Top 100 Products in 2018, BruxZir Esthetic zirconia is a revelation for anterior cases and further proof of why BruxZir Solid Zirconia is the No. 1 prescribed brand of full-contour zirconia.

Learn to CementBruxZir Crowns & Bridges

  • Shoulder preparation not needed, feather edge is OK. It is a conservative preparation similar to full-cast gold, so any preparation with at least 0.5 mm of occlusal space is accepted.
  • Minimum occlusal reduction of 0.5 mm; 1 mm is ideal.
  • For BruxZir Esthetic restorations, a minimum occlusal reduction of 0.7 mm; 1.25 mm is ideal.
  • Ceramir Crown & Bridge or a resin-reinforced glass ionomer cement such as RelyX Luting Cement (3M ESPE; St. Paul, Minn.) or GC Fuji Plus (GC America; Alsip; Ill.)
  • For short or over-tapered preparations, use a resin cement such as RelyX Unicem (3M ESPE) or Panavia F2.0 (Kuraray; New York, N.Y.)

Cementing BruxZir restorations with Ceramir (Doxa Dental) Crown and Bridge cement:

  1. Try BruxZir crown in mouth and make any necessary adjustments to contacts and occlusion.
  2. Rinse internal surface of BruxZir crown with air and water, and place Ivoclean (Ivoclar) inside of restoration and rinse off after 20 seconds.
  3. Mix and place Ceramir cement in crown, seat crown on tooth and proceed with cleanup as it enters doughy stage.

Cementing BruxZir restorations with resin-modified glass ionomer (RMGI) cements, such as RelyX Luting Plus (3M ESPE) and Fuji-CEM (GC America):

  1. Try BruxZir crown in mouth and make any necessary adjustments to contacts and occlusion.
  2. Sandblast internal surface of BruxZir crown for 15 seconds, or place Ivoclean (Ivoclar) inside of restoration and rinse off after 20 seconds.
  3. Place zirconia primer, such as Z-Prime Plus (Bisco) or Monobond Plus (Ivoclar), on internal surface of BruxZir restoration and dry for 3-5 seconds with an air syringe.
  4. Mix and place RelyX Luting Plus or Fuji-CEM cement in crown, seat crown on tooth and proceed with cleanup.

Bonding BruxZir restorations with self-adhesive resin cements such as RelyX Unicem (3M ESPE) and Maxcem Elite (Kerr), self-etching resin cements such as Panavia F 2.0 (Kuraray) and MultiLink Automix (Ivoclar), or etch-and-rinse resin cements such as NX3 (Kerr) and Variolink 2 (Ivoclar):

  4. Mix and place any of the resin cements above in crown, seat crown on tooth and proceed with cleanup.

Instructions for Adjusting and Polishing BruxZir Crowns & Bridges

01

A round bur is used for adjusting a fossa.

02

A tapered bur is most effective for adjusting cusps or proximal contacts.

03

A football-shaped bur is most effective for adjusting the occlusal surfaces of posterior teeth and the lingual surfaces of anterior teeth.

04

Using light pressure and no water, begin pre-polishing with the green cup to remove abrasions left by the diamonds during adjustments. The green cup can also be used alone for minor adjustments if you don't want to use a diamond.

Continue pre-polishing with the brown cup until a more glossy look appears on the adjustment areas.

06

Use the white cup with light to medium pressure to achieve a “wet” high shine.

07

The brown disc gently removes surface defects. Use in circular motions at 7,000–10,000 RPM to make minor adjustments to occlusal surfaces without affecting anatomy.

08

The blue disc is ideal for difficult-to-reach areas. Use light to medium pressure at 7,000–10,000 RPM to achieve a natural, high-shine finish in as little as 20 seconds.

Procedure to Sterilize the Aluminum Bur Block

  1. Ultrasonic Cleaning

Do not use ultrasonic solutions containing alkali products such as sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide.

    1. Always mix solutions according to instructions.
    2. A five-minute cycle time is recommended.
    3. Remove the burs from ultrasonic solution and rinse well with water.
    4. Dry the bur block thoroughly before placing it in a sterilization pouch.
  2. Sterilization (Autoclave)

Operate the sterilizer unit at 121°C for 30 minutes or at 132°C for 15 minutes with steam pressure of 15 psi. Allow sterilized components to dry for 15–30 minutes. Larger loads will require an additional 5–15 minutes.
